Server Tutorial

So you wanna be a server admin? Well, since I am the most helpful guy on the planet, I will try and guide you through the process... This guide is only for Windows based Half-Life servers for assistance with Linux based servers go to http://www.planethalflife/command and poke around.

Okay, let's look at what you will need.

  1. Some good iron (Pentium III or better, 128MB ram or more, etc...)
  2. 200+ MB of disk space.
  3. A T1 or better internet connection. You can run on Cable or DSL but you will be forced to limit the number of players to maintain performance.
  4. The patience of Job.
The first thing you will need will be the required files. Go to Counter-Strike and get the latest Counter-Strike full install EXE file.I used to include a link on this page but the file moves and changes so often that I will allow you the pleasure of poking around in order to locate it. ;)

Next, you will need the full HLDS (Half-Life Dedicated Server) program for Windows. Get it here. It is a 96+MB file but that should not be a problem since you are on such a big pipe, right?
